About Us

  • Based out of Flagler, CO, we provide onsite live auctions throughout Eastern Colorado.

  • Our auction service is multi-generational family owned and operated.

  • Auctioneers: Jim Michal & Jake Michal

  • We conduct onsite auctions of all types- including farm & ranch, estate, household, antique, real estate, business liquidation, and benefit auctions.

  • To facilitate real estate auctions and sales, Jim maintains a Real Estate Associate Brokers license with Goodman Realty Company, Inc. of Akron, Colorado.

  • We offer traditional, “old-school” in-person auctions, no online bidding.

  • Our auctions never use buyer’s premiums.

  • Our auctions often run rain or shine, wind or snow, until road closures prevent people from attending.

  • Sellers receive a record of all items sold on the day of the auction.

  • We make every effort to provide sellers prompt post-auction settlement; a seller can expect to receive auction proceeds about 2 weeks after the auction (upon clearance of all buyers' forms of payment).

  • We work hard on behalf of sellers to achieve the best possible value and outcome.

  • We take pride in building a business relationship with both the buyer and seller with integrity, fairness, and honesty for all. We truly believe in our motto:

"Pleasing You, Pleases Us"

Our History

Auctioneering began in the Michal Family with Frank Michal. Frank graduated from the Missouri Auction School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1913 and lived in Eastern Nebraska. Frank later moved his family to Eastern Colorado. In addition to farming, Frank also worked as an auctioneer until his voice was damaged by illness during the 1918-1920 Spanish Flu Pandemic.

Frank's son, David, followed in his father's footsteps and started auctioneering. Eventually he started Michal Auction Service in the late 1940s. After their marriage in 1951, David and his wife, Gwenn, operated the auction service as they farmed and raised their family in the Flagler area.

In the early 1970s, David and Gwenn's son, Jim, joined Michal Auction Service as an auctioneer after attending and graduating from Reisch Auction College of Mason City, Iowa. Years later, Jim and wife, Beverly, became the primary operators for the auction service with the help of their four sons.

In the 2010's, Jim and Beverly's son, Jake, also began auctioneering- becoming the 4th generation of auctioneers. Today, the principal auctioneers are Jim Michal and Jake Michal. Their families continue to help work auctions. In addition to auctioneering, Jim and Jake also farm and ranch in the Flagler area.

In Loving Memory- David & Gwenn Michal
